Sjogren's Syndrome
A lady in Taichung who has suffered from painful and swelling cheeks for the past 10 years has recently been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease.
After a laser treatment used to control dental pain, she is finally able to lead a normal life.
Ms Lin is now able to speak smoothly, but in the past 10 years or so, she had been suffering from pain in the face, and could not even eat in the past 3 years or talk.
She was later diagnosed with the Sjorgrens syndrome.
Lin had visited all major hospitals in central Taiwan but not able to find a cure. Lin was even going to remove her salivary glands last year but gave up due to the fact that the surgery might hurt her facial nerves.
She lived a painful live until the laser treatment in dental clinic stopped her pain, though not cured, Lin can lead a normal life.
Doctors remind the public that, the Sjorgrens syndrome patients suffered from dry moth and dry eyes and would have difficult time swallowing while face and mouth would be painful.
For those with similar symptoms, medical treatment is strongly recommended.
