Appreciation for Teachers
The Teacher's Day occurs every year on the 28th of September in Taiwan, and it's a chance for students to express their gratitude toward their mentors. However, to avoid issues of favoritism and to lessen the burden on instructors when receiving expensive gifts, the Ministry of Education says that teachers should not be accepting presents over 500 NT dollars. If you want to convey your appreciation, a simple gesture such as writing a thank you card will do the work.
This teacher is preparing for school, though there are no students present. This teacher did not expect students to suddenly deliver flowers and cards. This is the day before teacher's day as these students show their affection for this teacher.
This teacher says that students showing their affection help this teacher put more compassion into education. While gifts are not important, it has been rumored that some parents could send luxury handbags worth upwards of 10,000 NT$ to teachers during this holiday.
With more pressure on junior high school students wanting to progress to the next level. Taipei County Secondary and Elementary School Principals Association Secretary General, Hsueh Chun-Guang, expensive gifts can be stressful for teachers.
The Ministry of Education said faculty members should abide by the Civil Service Code of Ethics as gifts should not exceed 500 NT$. The Ministry of Education said it was better not to send gifts but instead a message or a card as a token of their appreciation.
Now, with more academic pressure due to the fact that school performance is becoming an increasingly important basis for academic advancement rather than entrance exams, more attention has been paid to gifts present to teachers.
