Confucius Birthday Celebration
A grand ceremony of worship was held yesterday in Taipei to mark the 2,560th anniversary of Confucius' birth, with President Ma Ying-jeou and many government ministers in attendance to pay tribute. However, near the end of the event, a folk activity suddenly turned the scene into one of chaos and incivility that goes against everything the Great Educator stood for.
President Ma Ying-jeou and ministers of government agencies attended the ceremony to pay respect to Confucius.
The sacrificial official was again Confucius' 79th grandson Kong Chua-chang, who feels proud and honored.
The climax of the event is to pull the hair of wisdom, where President Ma pulled two wisdom hairs to represent harmony and unity.
But after the president left, people scrambled to pull the hair and almost ruined the decorative bull ears and many even lost their shoes.
In the same ceremony in Ilan, many children were suffering from the heat as they wore heavy costumes.
The organizer quickly set up several fans and ice cubes to keep them cool and hopefully the event can conclude smoothly without any incidents.
