The recent construction accident that killed six foreign workers has brought another matter to the surface, revealing contractors who hired unauthorized laborers for this project. The Ministry of the Council of Labor Affairs, Wang Lu-Suan, is now investigating into the case, stating that punishments will be carried out for those who put these illegal laborers to work.

The incident on National Freeway number 6 exposed the problem of illegally hiring of foreign workers and the Council of Labor Affairs has begun its investigation in this case.

According to the CLA, foreign workers are prohibited to take part in the construction of some national infrastructure in order to protect local workers' rights to work.

Even so, contractors can apply for employment of foreign workers if it is necessary.

But the contractor of Freeway no.6, Kuo Teng Construction Co., Ltd did not apply for any foreign workers.

None of the 6 foreign workers were registered for the highway construction.

Besides checking the identity of the deceased, the council is also investigating whether these workers are legal foreign workers working illegally or illegal immigrants.

However, the contractor will surely face severe punishment for employing unauthorized workers.

Since the construction of Freeway no.6, there have been 9 major construction accidents, causing 10 people killed and 4 people injured.
