Temp Labor Disputes
Taiwan's workforce is characterized by a disproportionate number of dispatch workers, and now a proposal has been made to legalize labor dispatching for better protection of temp workers. However, labor organizations are strongly against this move, saying that it will actually put these workers in a worse situation.
Members of a labor group staged a demonstration outside the Council of Labor Affairs on Wednesday in protest of the impending legalization of dispatch labor.
The group says that legalizing the status of dispatch workers gives them even less protection, and that dispatch agencies would take a cut from their wages.
As Taiwan's temporary and dispatch worker population exceeds 500,000, the promulgation of proposed dispatch worker regulations could take away the little that dispatch workers have.
In response, the CLA says that a charter for adding dispatch labor regulations into the Labor Standards Act has already been passed, and that it is currently negotiating with labor representatives.
At the earliest, the draft will be sent to the Legislative Yuan for review in September.
