It has been months since the civil groups have first requested to raise the minimum wage to 22,000 NT dollars per month. In response to the delay, the Minister of Council for Labor Affairs says that the meeting will be held in September at the earliest.

Following Taipei Mayor Hau Long-bing's calls for pay raise for civil servants, local groups believe the basic labor wage is not enough to support a family and ask the Council for Labor Affairs to raise the figure to NT$22,000.

However, the basic labor wage screening committee hasn't had an official meeting this year.

Council for Labor Affairs minister Jennifer Wang says today that the meeting will be held in September at the soonest.

The meeting, which was slated in July, is delayed for two months and postponed to September.

The new committee will include representatives from management and labor as well as scholars.

When asked whether it will response the call of raising the basic wage, Minister Wang says the government doesn't make any assumption.

Some people believe the pay raise for civil servants will consequently encourage pay raise in labor wages.

On the question whether the Council supports pay raise for civil servants, Wang declines to comment, only saying that it is not the responsibility of the agency.
