You are probably not aware that you are not given the same kind of refund policy when shopping online.

More than 80 percent of Internet retailers reject consumers' requests for refund even within 7 days of purchase.

The Consumer's Foundation is stepping up to those that are violating the law and is warning buyers to carefully read the refund regulations before clicking "check out".

After purchasing a toothbrush online, Ms. Chen found it unsuitable and tried to return it. As she had opened the packaging, the retailer refused to refund her money.

The Consumers Foundation recently conducted an investigation into the business practices of 14 online shopping sites and found that 11 of them had no-return policies for a variety of products, including close-fitting garments, toiletries, and opened software or DVDs.

One retailer even stated on its website that consumers had to pay for shipping on returns.

The Foundation believes that these sites are in violation of the Consumer Protection Act, which stipulates that retailers must accept returns within seven days of purchase, and is calling on the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Consumer Protection Commission to take action against online retailers that are in violation of relevant regulations.

The CF is also reminding consumers to carefully read the return policies and membership agreements of shopping websites before making a purchase or applying for membership.
