41 ARTISTS, 4,500 TONS OF SANDS
The highly anticipated 2011 Fulong International Sand Sculpture Festival in the northeast coast of Taiwan, is now open to the public, presenting the works of 41 artists from 8 different countries.
With 4,500 tons of sands, the skillful talents are showcasing their amazing displays, which have significant meanings behind them.
The clothing, skin, fingernails and even the eyelashes of the lying Arctic giant are very delicate.
If you want to take a better look of the giant's face, you need to climb higher. The polar bear and Eskimo icehouse nearby are very vivid as well, as if the sculpture master has recreated the life of Arctic here in Taiwan.
On the other side of the sand sculpture festival, many people are attracted by the simple sculpture which shows "Thank you, Taiwan" in Mandarin and Japanese, with patterns of Yushan, Taiwan Blue Magpie and Japanese Sakura around the words.
The work is made by a Japanese artist, who hopes to show his gratitude to Taiwan for the support we offered to Japan after the earthquake.
The 2011 Fulong Beach Sand Sculpture Festival kicked off on May 1st, and had attracted many tourists over the weekend.
Besides, the festival also features many extraordinary works, including the divine creature of the Babylonian Legend, and the sculpture that celebrates Taiwan's centennial year. The festival will last till June 30th.
