CHALLENGES TO TAIWAN IT INDUSTRY
Meanwhile, Taiwan's IT industry also suffers from the catastrophe in Japan, since it largely depends on the quake-stricken country for the supply of electronic components. While many local tech companies have said that they still have about one month's worth of inventory, some analysts worry that it may not be enough.
The local high tech industry is recently feeling the impact of the earthquake in Japan with many large companies still having raw materials to last for a month or two, scholars are still predicting that, if the Japanese government continue the electricity rationing for more than 3 months, local manufacturing sector will be effected.
Japan is the largest exporter of IC parts, with the worlds largest wafer supplier semi-conductor company , Shin-Etsu Handotai located in Fukushima being the supplier of many industrial ACF conducting glue , others are meeting to find alternative supplies, but would be hard to switch to other suppliers in the short term.
In addition, Nikon and Canon, which supplies the semi-conductor industry and monitor industry also have factories in the disaster area, which should impact local companies wishing to expand in the near future
