Preventing Bird Droppings
An elementary school in Chiayi County had earlier been plagued with droppings from frequently visiting swallows, which posed a serious threat to campus cleanliness. But the teachers and students then came up with a brilliant method that eventually solved the problem without hurting the birds.
The first thing those school pupils did after classes got out was to tie shells onto kite threads and wire them on fences and signs to prevent bird droppings.
Because the thread is soft and unstable and the sharp edges of the oyster shells, swallows and sparrows hate to land on them, thus prevented them from coming to the campus.
It is clear that the school campus is much cleaner after the students and teaching staff put up the shells and now, they don't have to worry about bird droppings from the sky.
It took the students and teachers at the Long Kan elementary school in TongShih township of ChiaYi county to research and come up with the solution.
They are now sharing what they found with anyone or area with similar situation they faced.
