Hu Interviewed by Six Graders
Taichung mayor Jason Hu is no stranger to being interviewed, but this time around, he is questioned in English by two six graders from a bilingual elementary school. Hu opens up and shares his learning experience as well, emphasizing that studying hard is the key in perfecting the language.
With fluent English and beautiful pronunciation, the two six-graders surprised Taichung mayor Jason Hu.
Mayor Hu also responded with innuendo and gave the conversation some interesting twist.
The mayor said he was impressed with the children's English proficiency and stressed that English is an important tool to connect oneself to the world.
There are four private bilingual elementary schools in metropolitan Taichung, which charge a hefty tuition and require admission tests.
If students didn't study English for three years before the test, they may not pass the admission test.
While parents expect their kids to get into bilingual elementary schools that offer elite education, Taichung mayor Jason Hu used his own experience as an example, stressing that he was able to pick up the language in an era that had limited resources and encouraging children to work hard because there are opportunities everywhere as long as you work hard.
