Name Change for the 110 Year-old School
With the merging of Taichung County and Taichung City, the 110 year-old Datu Elementary School is among the first to feel the impact. However, the school has encountered many changes throughout the years, and today, the principal is laying out the collection of memorabilia gathered since the Japanese colonial period.
The seal of "Datu Elementary School of Taichung County" will be destroyed in 19 days.
It's a mixed feeling for the school's principal, who graduated from the elementary school and became the chief of the school.
The seals of the school's past are the witness of the school's history.
Founded in 1899, the Datu elementary school in Taichung county is 110-year-old.
It was a public school during the Japanese colonization period and changed its names two times after Taiwan's recovery.
After the Taichung city and county's merger and upgrade, its name is changed to the Datu elementary school in Taichung city.
Besides the seals and chops that teachers and principals collected, they hope that the century-old school buildings can also be well-preserved after the upgrade.
