Tsai Thanks Her Supporters
DPP's Tsai Ing-wen met with the public for the first time in Sanchung and Luchou to thank her supporters after losing the race. In response to the talk that Tsai may participate in the 2012 presidential election, she did not answer directly but said that the DPP will put forth their best candidate.
Tsai Ing-wen's first appearance after the election saw her return to the DPP strongholds Sanchung and Luchou. Many enthusiastically waved at her.
However, she did not want to comment about the shooting of Sean Lien on the eve of the election on November 26, refusing to comment if it might have impacted the results of the election.
Her only wish was that following this incident, Taiwanese society could be more mature.
Following the election, there were rumors that some felt she should step down to take responsibility for these election losses.
Tsai Ing-wen largely rebutted these claims.
Some in the media were interested in whether she would seek the DPP's nomination in the 2012 presidential election.
Tsai refused to talk about 2012. Still, she was the first to break through one million votes in Xin Bei City, setting a record for the DPP, winning some 400,000 votes from the KMT party as many believe that Tsai is the top candidate for the 2012 election.
