Hard Work Pays Off
Chinese Taipei's bronze medal winner of the men's gymnastics, Chen Chih-yu, returned to his school in Yilan yesterday. Chen, whose hands are both covered with callus through intensive training, encouraged the junior athletes to keep practicing because hard work will eventually pay off.
Friends and trucks with drummers welcome back the glory of Yilan County, Chen Chih-yu, who nabbed the bronze medal for gymnastics at this year's Asian Games.
Remember the cute gymnasts from Gong Jheng Elementary School of Luodong Township in the movie, "Jump! Boys"?
Chen was their upperclassman.
Like the gymnasts in the movie, Chen began with basic stretching and balance training.
Chen shows his callused palms to demonstrate his ten years of hard work and diligence.
Chen once thought about quitting, but with the encouragement and support of his family and coach, he trained all the way to compete in the Asia Games.
From his ten years of intensive training, Chen has developed a muscular physique.
Asked what his next objective is, Chen says he now has the confidence to compete in the Olympics.
That cute gymnast from "Jump! Boys" has matured and developed into a confident, international gymnastics competitor.
