Ex-president Chen Convicted
The Supreme Court reached a verdict yesterday on two corruption charges against former President Chen Shui bian, sentencing Chen and his wife to 11 years in prison in a land-deal related bribery case,
while giving the couple another 8-year jail term for a bribery conviction that involves the former chairwoman of the Taipei 101 Tower, Diana Chen.
Details over the combination of both sentences will be left for further discussion in the high court.
The decision marks the first time that Taiwan's highest court has made a final ruling in the ex-national leader's scandal.
