Winter Health Risks
As the temperature drops, the number of patients suffering from colds and cardiovascular diseases has increased. Since cold weather has a constricting effect on blood vessels, which oftentimes lead to high blood pressure and strokes, doctors suggest the public to keep themselves warm when heading outdoors.
Hospital lobbies are packed with sick patients.
Because of the recent temperature drop, many people are once again finding themselves at the doctor's office.
Doctors say that the cold weather will cause blood vessels to constrict more than usual and will decrease urination frequency and perspiration.
If patients are not careful, these symptoms may ultimately lead to heightened blood pressure and cerebral hemorrhage.
In Autumn, the number of patients with unstable blood pressure increased by about 50%.
In response to the situation, doctors are remind patients who suffer from high blood pressure, diabetes, and asthma to be extra cautious about their health.
Doctors are also suggesting patients to temporarily remain in bed after waking up and to develop a habit of massaging their feet and face while they wait for their body to adjust to the room temperature.
Families should also routinely measure the blood pressures of elder citizens and regularly remind them to take necessary medication.
People who feel unwell should seek medical attention immediately.
