Culinary masters filled the streets of Taipei on October 20th, calling for the government to dedicate this day to them, which is the "International Chefs Day" in many countries. Through this demonstration, Taiwanese chefs want the public to acknowledge their hard work and to pay more respect to their profession.

An appetizing cuisine lightens up our entire day. But we often give too little credit for the makers behind those kitchen doors.

On this day, known as the "International Chefs Day", hundreds of them, dressed in their full attires, from across the island parade down the street, with one common goal. They want their role in the society to be recognized, because they too want to be able to celebrate "Chefs Day" here in Taiwan.

Chef Lin says, that he has been in the industry all his life, but few understand what is like working under the high temperature, and the mentally stressful environment.

He adds, "when people are celebrating new years and holidays, as chefs, we have to sacrifice our family time".

There are currently more than 600,000 licensed chefs in Taiwan, and with the increase of culinary artists receiving attention in the international stage recently, more and more individuals are pursuing in this field.

Even with the growing popularity, they still feel under appreciated, and that their social status' will be at a standstill without the government's support.

Through this walk, joined by Taiwan's most notable chefs, the most skillful hands, they are voicing out for the public to back the art of cooking and that they are more than just someone that prepares your food in the back of the restaurant.
