Olympiad Gold-winning Team
High school students from Taiwan once again excelled in the International Physics Olympiad, winning five gold medals with an overall ranking of third place among 82 participating nations. And one member of this year's Taiwan team, Wang Si-bo, has won a trio of Olympiad gold medals in different subjects over three consecutive years, showing a versatility rarely matched by Olympiad contestants.
These five students, Hsu Nai-lun, Lin Guan-yu, Chao Ling-ya, Hsu Tzj-yang, and Wang Shi-bo represent Taiwan in the International Physics Olympiad held in Croatia in Europe. Each of them won a gold medal. The group ranking is No.3 in the world, only behind Mainland China and Thailand.
One of their instructors Lin Min-rui says the years of effort to selecting out
Among the five students, there are a 14-year-old student, the youngest International Olympiad gold medal winner in Taiwan and fresh graduate of Taipei Municipal Jianguo High School Wang Shi-bo, who has won a gold medal in both International Mathematical Olympiad and International Olympiad Informatics in two years.
This year, he scores a gold medal in the Physics category.
The three-time gold medalist also snatched a gold medal in the International Junior Science Olympiad back in junir high school years. Wang is setting an unprecedented record in Taiwan, perhaps the first one to achieve such success in the world.
Wang began taking math class with seniors at junior high school when he was a fifth grader. However, his parents, a delivery worker and a stay-at-home mom, were not sure what to do with the gifted boy.
Fortunately, with the assistance from many teachers and college professors, Wang is able to choose the subjects and fields that suit his levels.
His father is responsible to pick up the boy and the mother takes care of the boy's daily life.
According to the parents, Wang is an independent boy, who's going to study in the department of electronic engineering at National Taiwan University after the summer.
The only thing they hope is that the boy can be happy and learning what's beyond simply studying.
