Persimmons Promotion
A new challenge for an age-old business.
Hsinpu township in Hsinchu is traditionally famous for its dried persimmons, but sales have plummeted in recent years under intense competition from China. Now the local producers are launching a massive promotional campaign to reclaim their market dominance.
Starting September, the autumn season and its northeastern wind would be perfect for dried persimmons making, especially in Hsinchu Countys HsinPu Township.
Many fans of the dried fruit would visit HsinPU every year, a township that would have around NT$100 million in the dried persimmons sale.
However, the business has been affected by cheap and lower quality versions from China.
In order to help the local farmers, local farmers association is helping to train them to transform the factory into tourist attractions with Do-It-Yourself activities.
It is an effort to compete with China and make it known to others the quality of Taiwanese dried persimmons is more superior.
