Worst Flood in Yilan
Good morning and thank you for tuning in to CTS News. I'm Cary Chuo.
Typhoon Megi has barely made landfall on Taiwan, but torrential downpours have already caused severe damages across Yilan County, especially in Suao township. Many local buildings were flooded to the second floor, which made rescue efforts extremely difficult.
The torrential rain turned many streets in Suao city of I-lan County into little creeks. Many people had to move their valuables to higher floors, hoping to lower the damages, A granny even went out in the rain to look for her grandchild, which scared many rescue workers.
All of the ginseng supplies at a Chinese pharmacy were soaked in water while cars on the street are under the floodwater.
Rescue boats had to rush in to rescue those who were trapped.
On the streets, many household appliances, including refrigerator, gas tanks were floating everywhere. Residents had to wait on the second floor to be rescued.
The whole I-lan area is affected with traffic cut off at many districts.
Some bridges were closed causing many kids not able to go home after school.
Many local residents say that, in the 30 plus years theyve lived there, it is the worst flood they have ever seen.
