Pingtung Residents Evacuated
In Pingtung, many residents struggled to keep the continuous rain from coming into their homes, which caused costly damages to their residences. Serious flooding were reported around town, and in Linbian Township, the first evacuation took place on Sunday, to ensure the safety for the senior citizens and those with physical disabilities.
Starting Sunday afternoon, Pingtung was hit by torrential rain.
The road under the Changji interchange became a small river.
Although the road was flooded, many cars tried to make it through, causing quite a dangerous scene.
Police officers had to put up tapes to block the section, asking cars to take another way.
Residents of the Changji Township were busy piling up sandbags to prevent their homes from being blooded.
But within 30 minutes, before they even got time to use water pump, their homes were flooded. The water was at knee levels.
Adding that their homes are flooded every year, residents say they don't know what to do.
The same situation happens in Linbian Township of Pingtung, which is prone to flooding whenever it rains.
The township office implemented its first evacuation in the afternoon, where village chief visited door-to-door, asking people to evacuate.
Elders living alone and those with physical disabilities were first evacuated to a shelter. The local residents hope the rain could stop soon so they can go home immediately.
