Xiaolin Still Awaits Help
Let's first take you back to a devastating encounter a year ago.
Xiaolin village residents have returned back to their demolished homeland for a memorial gathering a year after the August 8th flood last year.
Facing great hardships ahead of them, the President of the Xiao Lin Self-Help Association is asking the government to support the rebuilding of the village as soon as possible.
Religious chanting can be heard in the Xiaolin village.
One year after the village was devastated, remaining villagers return to their hometown in black, looking sad and concerned as they are to pray for their deceased family and friends, seeking blessing from God.
Typhoon Morakot hit Taiwan exactly one year ago.
At least 474 people in the Xiaolin village of Jiaxian township in Kaohsiung County were buried alive.
Survivors can never forget the pain of losing their family members.
They write their wishes on yellow ribbons to express hopes to soon rebuild their homeland.
But villagers say they don't feel the government's sincerity in making that happen.
Now Xiaolin villagers hope that they can find a place to call home. And wish the government can assist them to land jobs in the tourism or the processed agricultural food industry so that they can return to normal lives on their own.
