MONTHLY SALARY LOWER THAN EXPECTED?
The latest survey from a job bank indicates that 43 percent of the businesses in Taiwan are willing to hire new college graduates.
However, while 17 percent of them have already secured a position in the market, the study shows that the average starting salary per month has dropped to 23,000 NT dollars this year.
For the seniors in college, it's time to celebrate. But as they walk away with their diplomas in their hands, they are now facing responsibilities of getting a job.
And how is market right now?
The latest survey from a job bank reveals that 43 percent of the companies are looking to offer entry-level positions to college graduates, but on the downside, the monthly salary is drastically lower, with an average of 23,000 NT dollars this year.
Although 17 percent of the new graduates have landed a job right after school, which is 10 percent higher than the same period last year, the pay continues to fall short of their expectations.
The study shows that students are expecting an average income of 28, 531 NT dollars per month for their first job, which marks the highest in seven years.
But to their disappointment, they are only being given a salary of 23, 650 NT dollars monthly, setting the lowest record in eight years. In addition, those with a master's degree are looking at around 27,000 NT dollars for their first paycheck.
Thus, many are seeking for other alternatives to make money, including running their own businesses.
While not everyone is as daring, the job bank is encouraging the graduates to get into the industry first despite the reduced income, and to wait for better opportunities to open up in the future.
