FILTHIER THAN PUBLIC TOILET SEATS?
Drivers, you may want to keep the following news in mind before you dig in your food while you're on the road. A recent research has found that the steering wheel of your vehicle harbors nine times more bacteria than a public toilet seat. Grossed out? Absolutely. Here on CTS, we get deeper into the world of bacteria for your sake.
Yes, you wash your hands frequently, you are proud of your personal hygiene, and you make sure your convertible is spotless for a date night, but here's the real question, how about the inside of your car? How clean is it?
Beware, because this new discovery may throw you off just a little bit. According to a new study from the UK, the interior of your ride has nine times more germs than the toilet seat in public restroom, 80 bacteria for every square inch and a half, compared to 700 harmful bugs in the same area on the steering wheel.
How is that possible? It is not a shocker, after knowing the fact that 42 percent of the people munch away while they're cruising, and only a third of them clean the inside of the vehicle once a year, while ten percent of them do not wipe down surfaces or even bother to vacuum at all.
This kind of behavior creates a perfect breeding ground for these bugs, especially with litter or uneaten food sitting around.
And it gets worse. The filthiest corner is actually the trunk, with 1,000 bacteria for every one and half square inches.
Bacillus cereus, a bug found in rice, pasta, potatoes and pies, which can cause food poisoning, is most commonly found in cars, in addition to arthrobacter, which is detected in soil and human skin.
So if you want to be sick free, then try to avoid taking big bites when you're still on the driver's seat, or have antibacterial packs everywhere in sight.
