According to the latest research conducted by the National Health Research Institutes, people in Taiwan are too dependent on antibiotics, leading to 70 percent of patients having resistance to the frontline drug, Ampicillin. Experts suggest following doctor's prescription on taking medication, and avoid buying them over the counter.

Usually, patients who have a cold or experience discomfort would take medicine prescribed by clinics or hospitals.

But not many of them would finish taking all the medicine given.

However, the act of stop taking medicine randomly may cause the bacteria to develop resistance.

According to the latest research by National Health Research Institution, about 71% of outpatients have developed resistance to the preferred antibiotic for airway infection, Ampicillin.

Second-tier antibiotic, Baktar, is not effective to more than half of outpatients. while 16% of outpatients develop resistance to third-tier antibiotic.

Doctors suggest the public to take medicines under medical supervision and do not randomly purchase oral antibiotic at local pharmacy.

Otherwise, it's likely for one to develop drug resistance and face a tough time of not having the proper drug to cure illness in the future.
