ADDRESSING WORKERS' ISSUES ON LABOR DAY
The National Policy Foundation has released a survey prior to the Labor Day, which indicates the major concerns of the employees in Taiwan. Most say that they care most about the government's plan in creating jobs for the people, with many expressing the inequalities when it comes to benefits for temporary and part-time workers.
They are all working the same job. But some of the workers are full time employees, while others are temporary workers, which don't have the same worker's rights as their full time colleagues.
Academics and labor representative believe the government should improve this situation. The National Policy Foundation released a survey on what workers are concerned with. 30% of those surveyed believe the government should protect non-traditional workers and establish laws to guarantee the same wages for full time and temporary workers.
This will help solve the problem for people who are poor but busy, and maintain their working dignity. But the survey also found that 90% don't understand what "dignify work" means. Academics say the Council of Labor Affairs has promoted itself as doing a lot for workers.
But most people don't feel this way. This report will be provided to the government to help them with their planning.
