A DAY TO GIVE THANKS TO SOCIAL WORKERS
The Social Worker's Day, which falls on April 2nd, is a day when we honor them for their dedication and contribution to the society. However, a recent report shows that they are constantly under great pressure because of heavy workloads. Here on CTS, we are taking you witness one particular family support center in Taitung, where you can see the immense responsibilities they have on their shoulders.
While the family support center in Taitung County has 43 social workers on staff, there are over 3,200 children who need their support.
On average, one social worker must tend to 74 struggling children, and this number is set only to increase, not decrease.
As their working hours grow, their break time decreases.
Recently, the family support center in Taitung held a Social Work Day event, but a majority of the social workers were unable to put off their duties to attend.
Meanwhile, the event continued as usual, and in the face of increased reports on child abuse, six social workers who recently gave birth, gave their vows to protect every child on earth.
Of these six social workers, a couple, who recently welcomed a new baby into the family, now understand even more in-depth the importance of caring for children.
Now they must first tend to their financial foundation and pass one of life's biggest challenges.
Social workers regularly care for the weak in society, but they often must work in negative environments, and must constantly battle for resources for struggling families.
They depend on their internal organizational infrastructure to adjust their emotions.
If not for the compassionate hearts and determination of these people, social work could not continue the way it has.
