GOV'T INCREASES WELFARE FOR CHILDREN
President Ma Ying-jeou recently visited the center for the disadvantaged children, bringing gifts to them for Children's Day. President Ma also made an announcement regarding his plan of providing more welfare for the little ones this year, including constructing a daycare system for pre-school kids, increasing the subsidy for underprivileged children, and implementing a free-tuition program in both public and private kindergartens for five-year-olds.
One day before the Children's Day, President Ma Ying-jeou paid a visit to the children's center in central Taiwan, to celebrate the holiday with the children. Ma's appearance excited all the kids, and he even held up the kids in his arms.
Ma said that his daughters are all grown-ups, and he's happy to see these little ones.
He also urged the public to have more babies, because the government has been providing several incentives to boost the birth rate.
Meanwhile, the government will also implement several welfare policies for children, including the construction of a comprehensive daycare system for pre-school children and the children's daycare subsidy will be available for children above the age of two in mid-and low-income families.
Furthermore, starting July 1st, the authorities will increase the subsidy for children and teenagers in mid- and low-income families.
What's more importantly is that starting August 1st, all children at the age of five attending either public or private kindergartens will be exempted from tuition.
The president also said that in the future, if the government's finance approves, the free-tuition program will be expanded to children at the age of four or even three.
