KAOHSIUNG MRT EXPANDS BENEFITS
Starting April first, all senior citizens over the age of 65 as well as disabled passengers from around the island may get a 50% discount in tickets at the Kaohsiung MRT services, which is a benefit previously reserved only for the elderly and handicapped residents of the southern city.
Starting on April 1st, everyone over the age of 65 will be able to enjoy the 50% discount on Kaohsiung MRT tickets that is currently only available to seniors with households registered in Kaohsiung City.
Many seniors are happy about the measure, and say that they will be more willing to take the MRT in the future.
Recent amendments to the Physically and Mentally Disabled Citizens Protection Act also ensure that disabled persons will be eligible for the discount.
Those that want to purchase discounted tickets should present their IDs or disability handbooks at MRT station service counters.
An estimated one million seniors and disabled persons are expected to benefit from the new measure when it goes into effect on Friday.
