The Brown Line and the Blue Line of Taipei's MRT services are to be connected soon. A final-stage inspection was conducted by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications last weekend and only minor defects were found.

The Taipei City government expects that the new section will start operation by the end of this month.

MRT workers were simulating what would happen if a sudden brake failure occured to a moving train. After quickly changing the settings, the stopped train slowly moved into the station.

Another simulation was a blackout.

When the platform was pitch black, signs of emergency exits were illuminated.

But one sign was not working.

After the first inspection on the extension of the Bannan line in last month, commissioners inspected again on February 13th, while they tested the safety of both hardware and software, they were also testing the contingency skills of the staff.

Commissioners pointed out two oversights which the MRT bureau should improve before asking the city government to approve the operation of the service.

When the extension operates officially, it would offer residents in Nankang, Neihu, Hsichi and even Keelung a much easier way to travel to downtown Taipei.
