FREE WIFI SERVICE IN TAIPEI
Free wireless Internet access will soon be available in public areas of Taipei City to both the citizens and foreign visitors. And according to the authorities, the new service may start in as early as April.
Taipei City Hall has long offered free public Internet access to people in the area, and now the same service are available at MRT stations and Flora Expo parks.
However, the service is not yet free in every district.
Even in places where the service is free, there is a time limit of only 30 minutes, after which the Internet will automatically cut off.
In addition, users first register for membership and fill in their personal information.
However, starting this April, Taiwanese citizens and foreign visitors will be able to forgo this step and just input their cell phone and laptop numbers and immediately have unlimited free wireless Internet access.
It is estimated that approximately 600 thousand people will use this service.
Currently, Taipei City Hospital, Taipei City Library, the administration centers of twelve districts, and MRT stations provide WiFi access.
In April, all of the major routes in Taipei City, areas of dense population, and major parks will start adopting this service.
However, the wireless Internet speed will pertain to the current ADSL speed and will not be suitable for people to watch streaming movies or download music, movies, and other files that require a broadband network.
