RISKY BUSINESS TO BE IN?
A new data from the Bureau of Health Promotion has discovered that male occupational drivers are 30 percent more likely to work overtime everyday and are more prone to smoking. In comparison to other professions, these individuals have a higher chance of suffering from cardiovascular diseases.
A bus driver recently was struck by heart attack when he went onto a highway route.
Luckily he was able to hold his composure long enough to direct the bus onto the shoulder of the highway and save all 31 of his passengers.
But unfortunately, the driver himself passed away from the heart attack.
As a matter of fact, bus or taxi drivers often put in over 12 hours of work time and overlook their own health.
According to data collected by the Bureau of Health Promotion, the rate of acute myocardial infarction, also known as heart attacks, has risen from 39.2 out of ten thousand people in 1996 to 79.8 in 2009.
In thirteen years, the number has doubled.
In addition, the rate of heart attacks in men is two times the number in women.
What is interesting to note is that men are thirty percent more likely to smoke, putting them at great risk of cardiovascular disease compared to those in 19 major industries.
Medical experts say that the best way to prevent cardiovascular diseases is to quit smoking, avoid over-working, and allow oneself sufficient time to relieve stress.
Those experiencing tightness or pain in their chest or heart palpitations should seek immediate medical attention. It is not recommended to ignore such symptoms.
