The health hazards of smoking may be worse than you think. Experts say that aside from cancer-inducing substances such as nicotine and tar, radioactive material is also contained in cigarettes.

Many people worry about the radiation from High Voltage Tower and base stations.

But little is known that cigarettes also contain radioactive materials.

According to a survey by the Atomic Energy Council, cingarettes have carcinogens such as nicotine, tar and a radioactive substance - polonium.

In other words, one inhales in radioactive material when smoking.

The council specifies that the safe value for radiation dose for one person per year is 1 millisievert.

But if one smokes one and a half pack of cingarettes a day, the dose of radioaction would be 13 millisievert, which is 13 times of the allowed value.

Experts say that long-term contact with radioactive materials would raise cancer risks.

The council stressed that polonium exists naturallly and such substance would be passed through human body passages.

But for regular smokers, carcinogens and radiation would be accumulated in one's body.

For one's own health, the best way to prevent cancer is to quit smoking.
