ANTI-BULLYING CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED
With the start of a new semester for elementary and junior high schools around the island, an anti-bullying campaign was launched nationwide yesterday. And in Taipei, mayor Hau Lung-bin visited a local school to promote awareness of the issue and announced an anti-bullying helpline for all students in the city.
On the first day when the semester starts, Taipei mayor Hau Long-bin wears a pink shirt that sends anti-bullying message internationally.
The mayor also danced to the hit song "Bo Beep" which means blessing in Taiwanese, hoping that students are blessed in the new semester.
In Taipei City, students can call the city resident hot line 1999 if they are the victim of bullying or want to report bullying on campus.
Not to be outdone by Taipei City, New Taipei City also has volunteers and high school students passing fliers out in front of busy MRT stations to promote anti-bullying awareness.
Ministry of Education sets the first week of the new semester as the national anti-bullying week among elementary and junior high schools.
An anti-bullying campaign is also carried out on Wednesday nationwide, which aims to help create a friendly campus environment so students can go to school in safety and expect a quality learning experience.
