Non-smoking Campus Campaign
To push for a smoke-free campus, many universities and colleges are requesting new students to undergo the carbon monoxide test, which will determine if one is a smoker. In addition to the programs, school officials will also provide counseling to assist smokers in kicking the bad habit.
Chang Chian-Tzi has been smoking since he was in junior high school due to peer pressure.
As time passes, his addiction had also gotten worse, particularly when he was faced with one of the biggest tests in his life.
Chang had never thought of quitting smoking, until he joined a class for quitters.
After two months, he has successfully quit by using an ear patch.
Many colleges and universities have been promoting a smoke-free campus recently and there are many other programs to help smokers to quit other than the quit-smoking programs, there are also health check for all the freshmen and follow-ups on all the smokers to make sure they are actively decreasing their intake of cigarettes.
Take Tamkang University as an example, if the students are smoking out of the designated smoking area, then a warning will be slapped on.
Also, there is the smoke-free team that would patrol around the campus.
Other than that, there is also a smoke-free housing rental service to promote a smoke-free environment in the surrounding neighborhood, too.
Despite what the outcome is, these efforts are indeed admirable.
