Hou Named Deputy Mayor of Ntc
Mayor-elect of the New Taipei City, Eric Chu, announced his appointments of three deputies on Monday, which include the former chief of National Police Agency, Hou Yu-ih, who has been widely seen as a pan-green official.
And with the surprising move, Chu has proved that he will not let personal political stance get in his way of making the right choices.
Five days before the restructuring of New Taipei City, Eric Chu announced members of his cabinet with a list of three deputy mayors released including the person responsible for law and order,
Hou Yu-ih, former Central Police University President and Ministry of Finance Administrative Deputy Minister Hsu Chih-chien with expertise in financial planning, and someone regarded as part of Ma's Army,
Taipei County Deputy Magistrate Lee Shu-chuan who will stay on in his duty with expertise in construction and work to build New Taipei City's 3d MRT line.
The most surprising announcement was Hou Yu-ih who served as the top police officer presiding over the 319 shooting.
He had been accused by KMT legislators of covering up the truth.
This has caused lots of speculation though when Eric Chu served as Taoyuan County Magistrate, Hou was the Taoyuan County Police Commissioner, and the two enjoyed good contact.
With the shooting of Sean Lien ahead of this year's election, public safety had become a major issue.
Chu has also recruited Chen Shen-hsien, former Director-General of the Water Resources Agency to serve as secretary general using his expertise to help develop property development projects including one on the waterfront.
Other media people have been selected and along with Information Bureau director and Tourism Director and 33 other bureau chiefs from the central government with the Taipei County Government team also remaining in place including the chief of staff.
Chu stressed that he has chosen this staff and did not discuss it first with the Ma Administration. As for the English name of the area,
he prefers New Taipei City and will formally propose it to the Ministry of the Interior as well as his new cabinet.
