In Need of Blood Donors
Blame it on the weather for a recent drop of blood donors.
The Taipei blood bank is currently desperately in need of blood, with less than two days of supply left for the patients in the north, which is critically low compared to a suggested amount of at least one week of inventory. With that said, the public is encouraged to roll up the sleeves to save lives.
The weather on this Saturday is quite good.
Mr. Chien came to the blood donation bus at the 228 park to make his donation early in the morning.
He has donated his blood for 88 times over the 20 years with an average frequency of once every three months.
But there are not many people who are regular blood donors like Mr. Chien.
Since the weather has been quite unstable in October, there are fewer donors.
Moreover, the number of patients in need of major surgeries has been quite high recently, prompting the blood volume needed to rise from 2,000 to 2,200 bags a day.
The blood bank has stocks plunging to just two days supply.
Usually, at normal levels, the stocks should be available for 7 to 10 day supply.
Since the blood volume is low, hospitals give priorities to major surgeries and postpone others.
According to the local blood bank, since a cold front is coming next week, which is likely to affect blood donation volume.
Therefore, the center urges healthy adults to donate their blood as which can help save people's lives and boost one's own metabolism too.
