Ecoark Unveiled
The Taipei Flora Expo unveiled the last of its 14 pavilions on Friday. The "Pavilion of New Fashion," also known as the EcoARK, is the world's first plastic-bottle-built structure, which embodies the ideal of resource recycling and reuse. And the architectural marvel attracted more than 20,000 visitors on its opening day.
At barely 9am, multiple clusters of people have gathered outside to witness the Taipei Flora Expo pavilion that is made entirely out of water bottles, the first of its kind in the world.
Many visitors gained a fresh perspective from the pavilion that's made out of 1.5 million recycled water bottles.
From the inside of the pavilion, the insulating walls appear translucent, reduce energy consumption, and cut down on carbon footprint.
The most noteworthy trait about this structure is that it utilized the concerted efforts of Taiwan's citizens.
Every single water bottle was donated by the Taiwan public.
The grand opening of the pavilion kicked off with renowned Japanese vogue photographer Ninagawa Mika taking photos of Asian supermodels Lin Chiling Yang Jin-hua and others in a floral themed shoot.
On the second floor was the dream cabin, a multimedia artwork which combines water bottles and utilizes the reflective effects to create an optical illusion.
All of these designs convey hope that Taiwan's citizens will continue to act out on principles of carbon reduction.
