Misconceptions of Antibiotics
The emergence of Superbug has once again brought the issue of antibiotics abuse to public attention, but many are misled into thinking the smaller dosage of antibiotics used, the better,
and stop taking them long before the treatment is completed. Doctors point out that such an attitude would only provide more breeding grounds for the next super bacteria.
According to pharmacy, in the past few days, medication recycle bin has been fuller than usual, about twice as much.
Among them, most are anti-biotics.
After the recent report of the super bug NDM-1 in Taiwan,
many people thought that antibiotics are bad for health and would not dare to finish the dosages prescribed by their doctors.
According to doctors, taking medication half way through the treatment dosage and period would seriously affect the treatment and allow bacteria to become drug resistant just like the super bug, and would hurt the patient even more.
Pharmacist points out that, antibiotics should be used to treat fever, aches and pains, infections in the throat, toothache and dental surgeries.
It is thus suggested that patients should ask their doctors or qualified pharmacists question on their medication, while avoid cold or flu medication and dairy products while taking them.
