Hundreds of Schools Affected
The recent typhoon pounded the island with no mercy, affecting hundreds of campuses around southern Taiwan.
According to the latest number released, over 400 schools experienced flooding, with the estimated loss surpassing 250 million NT dollars.
Imagine these students' surprise when they woke up from sleep in the midst of a flooded Chia Nan University of Pharmacy and Science.
Fortunately, after floodwaters began to recede around noon time, some people were able to walk out; some paddled out on firefighter innertubes.
Another ten students escaped with the help of soldiers and military trucks, and thinking about they'll be able to go home while flood recedes, all of the students couldn't help but grin.
However, other schools were not so lucky.
Take, for example, Linbian Primary School, where floodwaters reached to 30cm in depth.
According to statistics collected by the MOE, a total of 438 schools suffered from the floods, and losses exceeded $250 million.
The most seriously hit areas were Kaohsiung City, Pingtung County, and Tainan County.
As for the students, when the floodwaters recede, they will have to grab their mops and buckets and clean up all the mud left behind - quite a daunting task indeed.
