A bridge made of paper doesn't sound very sturdy, but don't let preconceptions fool you. A group of students recently made a bridge out of cardboard and glue. Built without nails, the paper structure can even support 300 kilograms of weight.

Seeing how the bridge holds up as a scooter carrying two adults travels across it, many would be surprised to discover that the bridge was constructed from nothing more than cardboard, glue, and precision mechanics.

A team of 18 National Taiwan University of Science and Technology students built the 2.5-meter long bridge from 450 pieces of cardboard, and initially believed that the bridge would only be able to support a bicycle.

They were therefore pleasantly surprised to discover that the bridge could hold up to 300 kilograms.

All of the paper bridges constructed in Taiwan in the past were 40-centimeter models, and this was the island's first large-scale paper bridge.

According to the team's supervising professor, the success of the project marks a new breakthrough.
