We do get a little carried away sometimes when it comes to shopping. Now, we have a scientific explanation to back our spending habits. A UK research shows that women are more likely to go on an extravagant shopping spree 10 days before their "time of the month". So blame it the hormones, for the uncontrollable buying behavior.

A British on-line research on shopping behavior of 450 women at the age between 18-50 shows that women's un-planned shopping activities have a lot to do with their menstrual cycles.

According to the findings, women are likely to overspend by a maximum of 250 pounds, which is around 12,000 NT dollars, before their periods begin.

A Taiwanese psychiatrist also says that women tend to feel a little stressed or depressed four days prior to their periods.

Since shopping can help to cheer women up, it is considered a common way for them to deal with the negative emotions caused by premenstrual hormonal changes.

Overall, sixty percent of premenstrual women would spend an extra 1,240 NT dollars on unnecessary items, while some may go so far as to spend 11,240 NT dollars more than usual.

Therefore, in order to prevent post-shopping regrets, female consumers should probably stay away from stores altogether during the days preceding their periods.
