Spanish Galleon in Keelung
The replica of a 17th-century Spanish galleon made a surprise visit to Keelung Port late Friday, which delighted many tourists. Earlier on display at the Shanghai World Expo, the ship was originally bound for Yilan, but had to make an emergency stop at Keelung due to the approach of Typhoon Fanapi.
When the replica 17th century Spanish galleon first arrived at Keelung Harbor, many tourists thought that a movie was being filmed.
The Andalucia had been bound for Yilan, but the Spanish crew decided to dock at Keelung until Typhoon Fanapi passed. The beautiful ship has never sailed during a typhoon, and the crew was extremely concerned about storm damage.
On the morning after the ship docked, workers opened portholes to reveal twelve antique cannons and allowed visitors to embark and tour the ship.
Tourists were beside themselves with excitement at the unexpected opportunity, and many expressed hopes that Fanapi would allow the Andalucia safe passage to Yilan.
