Daily Rental Suites Safety
Daily rental suites have become increasingly popular among tourists and backpackers here in Taiwan. But there are safety concerns over these modestly-priced accommodations, since they don't belong to any exisitng categories of hotel lodging, and they are completely beyond the regulation of the law.
The exquisitely adorned reception centers of hotels now offer not only regular apartment units but also daily rental suites, such as this five-ping suite, which comes complete with a television and bed set.
While units of the same quality elsewhere cost up to NT$1800 a night, this suite costs only NT$990, nearly half of the original price.
Such attractive pricing has drawn in several tourists.
However, because the suites were registered under real estate management, they are considered a part of neither hotels nor hostels.
If an accident occurs, the question remains who should take responsibility.
Meanwhile, many long-term residents have also complained that there is no control over the randomness of the kind of people who rent the suites.
While both long-term residents and tourists are hoping for a regulation system on this matter soon, tourists currently will have to be able to discern safer resting places.
