How Much for a Mooncake?
A hotel in southern Taiwan recently unveiled mooncakes featuring American ginseng powder among other costly ingredients, which carries the price tag of more than 15,000 NT per box, allegedly setting a new record as Taiwan's most expensive mooncakes. Yet despite the lofty price, they are selling extremely well.
Top-quality American ginseng is ground into powder and poured onto the dough.
The chef wraps lotus paste and five types of fruits and nuts into the dough with a practiced hand, and then presses the ball into a mooncake mold.
In a short while, a mooncake appears. Due to the mixture of ingredients, the pastries have a unique texture and rich flavor.
Each set of two mooncakes comes with an elegant white porcelain tea set created by renowned glass artist Heinrich Wang.
Bearing a 16,888 NT price tag, the mooncakes are reportedly Taiwan's most expensive mooncakes.
However, they are selling extremely well and the hotel has received an order for ten boxes from an entrepreneur that plans on distributing them to customers.
