Expo Bidding Allegations
The Taipei City Government is facing yet another allegation of corruption related to the upcoming International Flora Expo. A DPP city councilor questioned the administration for supposedly favoring a certain contractor during the bidding process for the right to manufacture the Expo's memorabilia. But the organizers denied such an allegation.
After the fact that all Taipei international Flora Expo souvenirs are made in China, DPP Taipei City councilman questioned the fact that the license fee dropped to just NT$30 million from NT$80 million from the first bidding to the 3rd bidding while the winning bid company of Ming Shen culture and communication under the United Daily was disqualified during the first try, thus the suspicion of the company receiving kick-backs.
The winning company turned in pretty much the same proposal for all biddings while reducing the cost.
During the third bidding process, two other more experienced companies bid for the case but didnt get the case, which the flora Expo organizing committee said there was nothing wrong with that.
It said that, during the global financial recession, consideration of fewer tourists to the event cause the fee to drop. The consumer protection administration agent said that, if there is any questions, the prosecutor office would take over the investigation process.
