Taiwan's "Rain City," Keelung, received just 5 mm. of rain in July. The Hsinshan Reservoir, which supplies the Keelung area, is currently operating at only 70% capacity. Without rainfall or restrictions, the water supply will only last another 40 days. Taiwan Water Corporation says that it may be forced to decrease water pressure at nighttime by the end of the month.

Keelung, which is known as Taiwan's "Rain City," is facing a water shortage.

Water levels at the Hsinshan Reservoir, which supplies the Keelung area, have fallen to 6.06 million tons, or 70% capacity. Without rainfall and at its current consumption rate of 150,000 tons of water per day, Keelung will run out of water in 40 days.

According to Taiwan Water Corporation, Keelung generally suffers water shortages between the months of June and November, and depends on typhoons to replenish water supplies.

As this summer has been relatively typhoon-free so far, the area may be in for a water shortage.

The corporation has already announced the first phase of an evening water rationing plan that will be implemented at the end of August if weather conditions don't change.

Meanwhile, Shijr's water supply, which originally came from Hsinshan, will now be sourced from the Feitsui Reservoir.

TWC is calling on the public to avoid wasting water even if no rationing measures have yet been implemented.
