A HEALTHIER HAPPY MEAL?
McDonald's Happy Meal is getting a makeover after being accused for contributing to childhood obesity by health experts. Now, let's find out the new adjustments that are being made, to cut down the calories and the fat.
You no longer have to feel guilty about getting Happy Meals for your little ones. McDonald's is looking to make a slight modification to its existing menu, by reducing the portion of French fries, while offering healthier beverage choices for kids, including the new fat-free chocolate milk and 1% low-fat white milk. The core of the Happy Meal will remain the same, with a choice of hamburger, cheeseburger or chicken nuggets. The food giant will also be throwing apples into the meal, as a default item, to ensure a more balanced diet for the young ones.
Scheduled to start by this September, the fast food giant's goal is to implement this new change to all of its 14,000 American restaurants by the first quarter of 2012. The price of the meals will remain constant, so you don't have to be concerned about paying extra to prevent your children from adding some pounds.
Few cities in the U.S. have banned Happy Meal toys, following concerns that children are getting hooked on to fast food because of it. But McDonald's has vowed to change our perception, with the company saying that they will come up with new ways to reduce added sugars, saturated fat and calories in the years to come.
