DJOKOVIC THE NEW WIMBLEDON KING
But that has changed this week, as Novak Djokovic became the world's new tennis king on Monday, right after he defeated Nadal in four sets in Sunday's Wimbledon final.
##
It was the dream Wimbledon final that all tennis fans had been waiting for--defending champion Rafa Nadal versus the hottest player of the year, Novak Djokovic of Serbia.
The two of them had met a total of five times at Grand Slam tournaments in the past, with Nadal winning all the contests, but Djokovic defeated the Spaniard in their four previous meetings this year, proving that the 10-time major winner from Mallorca isn't invincible after all.
The Serb broke Nadal to take the first set 6-4, and completely dominated him in the second set, winning 6-1.
At times it seemed that Djokovic was simply giving Nadal a taste of his own medicine: chasing down every ball and turning defense into offense in the blink of an eye.
However, a champion like Nadal would never go down without a fight. In the third set, he stormed back and broke Djokovic twice to take the set 6-1.
But eventually Djokovic's return game was too much for Nadal to handle. The Serb broke Nadal again to lead 5-3 in the fourth set, and there was little the Spaniard could do in the next game to prevent the inevitable.

For the first time in nine years, the Wimbledon men's singles champion is a man not named Federer or Nadal, marking the start of a new era for mens tennis.
"It's just an incredible feeling
that I'm never going to forget.
This is the best day of my tennis career.
For this kind of days I was practicing everyday,
being dedicated,
being a tennis professional."
