NADAL, MURRAY ADVANCE AT WIMBLEDON
As for other matches in the quarterfinals, defending champion Rafa Nadal got past American player Mardy Fish in four sets despite an injury in his left foot.
And home favorite Andy Murray faced little resistance from Spanish heartthrob Feliciano Lopez on his way to a straight-sets win 6-3, 6-4, 6-4.
Murray is bidding to become the first Briton to win the men's singles title at Wimbledon since 1936, but he will have to overcome Nadal first, who has beaten him twice at the All England Club in the past.
Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic of Serbia survived a scare from Australian qualifier Bernard Tomic, needing four sets to subdue the talented 18-year-old 6-2, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5. He will next face Tsonga in a semifinal showdown on Friday.
And a victory there will guarantee the Serb the world's top ranking even if Nadal wins this year's title.
Djokovic and Tsonga has met seven times in their careers so far, and the Frenchman holds the advantage with five wins.
